Staffing Reduction and DoDEA's Attempt to Sidestep RIF Requirements Covered by the MLA

posted May 3, 2018

As stated in an earlier FEA SR Newsletter, after a review of staffing documents and discussion with local presidents in local DDESS communities it is clear that many schools in DDESS/Americas will have an excess of educators for school year 18-19. DoDEA has not followed Reduction in Force procedures in the MLA. DoDEA seems to feel they may be able to move/relocate people to mitigate the need for a RIF. If you receive a reassignment letter at any time this year or at the beginning of school year 18-19 please contact your local president immediately. Your local president will be able to assist you in questioning your reassignment. The MLA has clear guidelines and processes for reassignment and RIF. If the agency violates these agreed upon procedures FEA SR will take actions to force the agency to abide by the MLA.
