September 15, 2014 FEA Stateside Update

Jane Loggins, FEA Director for DDESS
Dorothy L. Lee, FEA-SR General Counsel

I hope that everyone had a wonderful start to the school year! As we move into this new year, we will have changes and new challenges. The Association will continue to work to facilitate professional learning environments for our students and employees.

New MOU's-FEA SR has signed several new MOU's in the past four weeks. Below is a list of these MOU's. The full content of each is listed on the FEA Online Website, see the link below.

Stateside MOUs

  • READ 180 Next Generation
  • K-3 Literacy Intervention LLI
  • HS Science Text Book Implementation
  • PE-SPARK Curriculum

Travel and Training-All DODEA travel must now go through a very detailed approval process. AP Math training for DDESS was delayed due to travel processing. DODEA leadership, including Mr. Brady and Dr. Middlemiss, are very involved with trying to get travel processed for our employees. However, we will most likely still see very limited travel approval.

21st Century Jumpstart Training-Just approved last Thursday, 21st Century Jumpstart Training will be held the week of September 15th at Fort Bragg. All 2014-2015 DDESS 21st Century Schools are involved in this training. Staff development teachers, lead teachers and administrators will travel to Fort Bragg for this professional development. I will also be in attendance representing FEA SR.

Fall Area Council-Area Council will take place in Peachtree City, GA from October 2-5. FEA President Chuck McCarter and FEA Executive Director H.T. Nguyen will be joining us for our meeting.

MLA-Contract Status-The arbitrator has issued a decision on the Certified MLA. Both parties have 30 days to appeal all or any portion of the decision. If either side appeals any portion of the decision, the current MLA will remain in full force and effect until the appeal process is completed.

Thank you for all of the work you do each day to support the students, each other and our organization.
