Welcome back to a new school year! This is a very busy time for educators. Many changes are taking place in the Americas due to RSA-Restructuring for Student Achievement. We now are two new big districts, the Americas Southeast and Americas Mid Atlantic. We are working through changes that may affect school level functions. The Association is asking headquarters questions about changes and getting responses on a daily basis. If you have questions about RSA or are dealing with the impact of RSA locally, please let your elected local president know. We will address all concerns.

CCRS-Elementary/Secondary Math-The CCR 6-9 Late Release and K-5 Early Return professional development facilitated by the Dana Center may have improved a little from last year; but, these sessions clearly do not meet the needs of educators. We have no time to explore our new math materials. Employees have gotten no real professional development for the K-5 Go Math curriculum. The Dana Center focus on vertical alignment of the CCRSM standards is redundant and does not facilitate the support mathematical content knowledge for our educators. We shared our concerns with DoDEA Headquarters about appropriate training options for all educators. They have listened to our concerns, but they have not been able to provide the high quality professional development we need for our employees.

Dues Deductions-Dues deductions for this school year will begin on October 21, 2016 and end on May 5, 2017. Please review your LES and make sure these deductions begin and end on time. If they do not, please notify your local president immediately.

FEA-SR Area Council -- Fall Area Council will be held in Nashville, TN on October 14 and 15. All members are encouraged to attend if they are in the area. Local Presidents can provide detailed information on the location.

Spread Pay Worksheet MLA Section 10 Article 8-Within the first 60 days of school, each bargaining unit member should request a spread pay worksheet from the agency. We have been advised to continue requesting these as you have done in the past. It is usually our pay tech that provides this worksheet but some locals have the secretary send in a form to the pay tech.

Training for Local Representatives-In September, we will be on the road and provide training on the MLA and representational duties to the local elected officials at Fort Benning and Maxwell AFB. We are planning more training in other locals as we move into the school year.

Pay-All FEA SR Certified Employees should have received the 3% pay raise per the MLA effective July 25, 2016. Please check your LES to verify that you did receive this increase. Each employee that received an increase in pay should receive two SF 50's. One should reflect the pay adjustment and the other should reflect a step increase. Some Education Support Professionals should also have seen a pay adjustment in July.

MLA-Certified-The Association met with the Agency in a mediation session over the Certified MLA at the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service in Atlanta, GA. The current Certified MLA remains in full effect. The Association will keep you informed as this process moves forward.
