February 4, 2015 FEA President's Report

TRANSFER APPLICATION DEADLINE

February 6 is the deadline to submit a transfer program application. Once they have submitted their transfer application by the February 6 deadline, applicants will have until March 9 to make changes to their application. These changes can include amending location/category preferences, updating transfer groups, requesting joint consideration with a spouse, etc.

Our office has received many questions about the transfer program from members and we are working to get answers for everyone. Because the deadline to apply to the program is February 6, questions about eligibility for the transfer program are a priority. If you have sent us a questions about your transfer group, your certifications, etc. -- these questions do not need to be resolved until the March 9th deadline to amend applications. We will get answers to you as quickly as possible.

UPDATED TRANSFER TIPS

We have updated the "Tips for Transfers" on the FEA website (feaonline.org) to include answers to some common questions that we are receiving from our members. Please check the "Tips" for updates.

NEW MATH STANDARDS

As mentioned before, DoDEA has made the decision to implement new standards in math in grades PK-5 during next school year. The Association will be working with DoDEA to ensure teachers have the proper training and support needed to make this implementation successful. Currently, we are working with HQ to clarify information that was sent out about early return days for our PK-5 teachers. In the meantime, NEA has a wealth of resources including a Common Core Toolkit.

ADDITIONAL RESOURCES

As we approach Presidents' Day, February 16, you can find lesson resources at this page. Also, though many of us are already wishing for spring, there are lots of winter themed lessons for all grades at this site.

PRESIDENT'S TRAVELS

February will be a busy month for me. Feb 9 -13 will be "SuperWeek" here in the NEA building with lots of meetings and training sessions. The week will culminate in the annual NEA Foundation Salute to Excellence in Education Gala. Alina Rozanski, Netzaberg MS, is our nominee this year for that prestigious award. After that, I will be visiting with members at Ft. Campbell Feb 17-19. I look forward to talking with members there about the challenges they are currently facing. Finally, at the end of the month I will be attending the NEA Leadership Summit in Anaheim.

READ ACROSS AMERICA

As you prepare for NEA's annual celebration of reading, literacy, and all things Seuss, plan to take lots of pictures of your events! Share those with us at fea@feaonline.org. Need last minute ideas for your events? Try this site.
