RE: FEA President's Report
DATE: December 2, 2014

We continue to work with DODEA Headquarters to nail down the final details of the upcoming DODDS Transfer Program. As the old saying goes, "the devil is in the details," so there always seems to be one more unanswered question or issue to be resolved before we can finalize things. I am hoping to have the agreement signed soon, possibly as early as this week. We will, of course, pass on the details as soon as the transfer agreement is finalized and sent out.

We can tell you that the eventual transfer agreement will include a limited number of VSIP and VERA offerings. More details about these offerings will be coming in the next weeks.

We continue to work with management on the ground rules that will govern the renegotiation of the Collective Bargaining Agreement between FEA's DODDS members and management. We've received a number of ideas/suggestions from members so far, regarding issues they are concerned about and would like to see covered in a new agreement. Please continue to send your ideas to us at Your input is VERY important!

During the week of Nov 17 -- 21, your Board of Directors met here in Washington, DC for our fall meeting. In order to maximize our budget, we meet face to face only once during the school year with additional meetings being conducted by conference calls. The week was quite full with a long agenda. As you know, things continue to change rapidly in DoDEA and your Area Directors and Officers discussed the many aspects of these changes and how best to address them for our members. We also met with several NEA leaders and staff members to discuss the ways in which NEA can, and does, support our unique needs. Your Area Directors will be sharing more information as notes are finalized, etc. Please be patient as leaders catch up on their emails from the time spent out of the office.

It is never too early to start planning for this great event. This is a perfect way to get parents involved in a great activity at your school, and to let your community know about the wonderful things going on at our schools. The theme this year, Oh, The Places You Will Go! is perfect for our DoDEA students. For resources, ideas, and information go to: this page.

Getting parents actively involved in their children's education is one of the biggest keys to success for our students. FEA has posted a sample letter/news release/information sheet you can print out and customize for the parents of your students, or to be sent to local media. It includes some specific ideas parents can utilize to encourage learning at home and beyond. Download the document by going to this page.
