FEA SURVEY RESULTS -- Earlier this year, FEA surveyed DoDEA faculty and staff to get a better idea of your priorities so that we can be sure our efforts are best meeting your expectations.

We asked bargaining unit members to prioritize several overall issues, here's how you ranked them in order of importance to you:
  1. Maximizing instructional time with students
  2. Providing meaningful professional development for educators
  3. Restoring cuts to academic programs and increasing school level staff
  4. Enforcing the contract/working conditions/fair treatment
  5. Pushing for increased compensation/benefits

Well over 2,000 bargaining unit members responded to the survey, which is a fantastic turnout. FEA is very grateful to all those who completed the survey, and we're especially grateful to our many FRSs and building representatives who distributed and collected the surveys for us. The feedback you have given us reinforces many of the priorities we had set for FEA at the start of this school year and will help us better focus our efforts in the months ahead.

ATTENTION ALL MUSIC TEACHERS K-8 -- This is to clarify an MOU signed in August, 2010, affecting all music teachers that teach music in grades K-8 (in DoDDS). DoDDS and FEA have agreed to provide face-to-face training on special music programs for creating, recording and assessing music in Grades K-8. If you teach music in grades K-6 (regardless of whether you are at an elementary school or middle school) you will be required to attend. If you teach music in grade 7 or 8 (regardless of whether you are in an elementary school, middle school, 7-12 school, or unit school), you are authorized to attend this training if you wish to do so. FEA is aware that this training will occur in Europe in January (Ansbach/Heidelberg/Kaiserslautern/Wiesbaden), February-March (Kaiserslautern/Isles), and April (Lakenheath). Please make sure that all teachers receive this invitation from their principal, including those who teach music in grades 7 and 8. FEA members can read the MOU here (login is required)

100 PERCENT -- For this update, we have not one, not two, but THREE schools to recognize for reaching 100 percent Association membership this year. Congratulations and thank you to the membership and local leadership at Dahlgren School in Virginia, Garmisch Elementary/Middle School in Bavaria, and Kleine Brogel Elementary School in Belgium. All three of these schools have a long history of being at or near 100 percent membership each year, which is simply an incredible accomplishment. We thank you so much for your ongoing support of FEA and we are honored to represent you.
If your school has achieved 100 percent membership this year and we've not yet recognized you in this update, please send us a message at fea@feaonline.org

ELECTION DEADLINE -- A reminder: Friday, December 17, is the deadline to nominate yourself or any other FEA Active Member for an Area Director position on the FEA Board of Directors. Nomination forms and other election information have been sent to your FEA building representative and can also be found in the November FEA Journal that was mailed directly to members, as well as online at www.feaonline.org

THANK YOU -- Over the past week, I've been in Europe visiting with members at Kleine Brogel, SHAPE, and Brussels. Thank you to all the local leaders and members at these schools for their time and hospitality during this very hectic time of year.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS -- As this will be the last FEA President's Report of 2010, I want to wish all FEA members -- as well as all DoDEA students, parents and employees -- a safe and happy holiday season. My next update will be sent in mid January. I hope everyone enjoys their holiday break and has a very happy new year!
