RE: FEA President's Report
DATE: November 17, 2018

FEA understands that our members are the stakeholders most directly impacted by the Transfer Program. That is why we reached out to YOU for your input on the Transfer Program. Many thanks to all of you who took time to complete the survey and especially to those of you who wrote in depth comments about the program. We will be sharing the results with management and will publish the data shortly for members to see.

The Association knows that a robust and fair Transfer Program is important to our members and is vital to recruiting and retaining high quality educators. We will use the data from our survey to advocate for the best possible program and will fight any harmful proposals management may bring to the table. We will keep members posted about the status of the Transfer Program.

Our Executive Director, HT Nguyen, and I spent this past week at the Fall meeting of the National Council of State Education Associations. This meeting gives us a chance to work with leaders from other states on issues that impact all of our members. As we have noted, there is strength in unity and this was a great opportunity for us to build support for our members.

Open Season this year for the Federal Employees Health Benefit Program is from November 12 to December 10. This is the time for those enrolled in these plans to change plans or coverage options (between self-only, self plus one, or family, for example). Retirees who have been continuously enrolled can also make changes at this time. This Open Season also applies to the separate Federal Dental and Vision Insurance programs as well as the FSA Healthcare Savings plan. Employees do not enroll in FSAFEDS through DoDEA but directly at the FSA Feds site.

One again, several of our outstanding DoDEA teachers have been singled out for honors. Edie Palladino, Patch ES, and Deborah Young, Garmisch ES/MS,have been selected as state level DoDEA winners for PAEMST- Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching in Science for grades K-6. Congratulations to both!

Congratulations to Lakenheath HS for reaching 100% membership in the Association this school year. Please let the FEA office know (email us here ) if your school has reached this important goal so we can recognize your school too!

With Thanksgiving coming up, I have to say how grateful I am to represent such dedicated and caring educators. As I have said before, "You truly are world class!" Whether you celebrate with family and friends, travel, or just use the time to relax and recharge, I wish you a very Happy Thanksgiving.
