Just a short update to cover a few issues:
ATTENDANCE POLICY CLARIFICATION -- FEA has continued to work with DoDEA Headquarters to clear up misunderstanding on the new DoDEA regulation. An absence of 5 days does NOT constitute an automatic trigger to the Student Support Team, nor does it constitute a monitoring plan. Referrals to the SST are made when extended absences affect a students' academic progress or social emotional development. This is consistent with the SST manual negotiated several years ago. There will be times that a student may be gone for 5 days (bereavement, for example), and if academics are not affected, then no referral is made. FEA has asked Headquarters to re-examine their PR and clarify the language.
STAND UP TO BULLYING -- We're glad to see that DoDEA is joining the fight against bullying in schools. This has long been a priority of NEA. To find information on efforts in schools to end bullying, follow this link.
FEA BOARD MEETING -- The FEA Board of Directors meets here in Washington this week. Look for information from your Area Directors in the weeks ahead about the issues discussed at the meeting.
PLAN NOW FOR OPEN SEASON -- The Federal Employees Health Benefit (FEHB) Open Season runs this year from November 14 through December 12. Now is the time to start thinking about changes you may want to make. Find information at http://www.opm.gov/insure/openseason/index.asp
Have a great week!
