A Better Beginning: Helping New Teachers Survive and Thrive -- This publication, developed as part of NEA's New Teacher Support Initiative, is designed to help local affiliates set up new teacher support systems. It includes insights into the challenges new teachers face today, characteristics of an effective new teacher support system, and real examples of what works. "Creating a Teacher Mentoring Program" -- The NEA Foundation for the Improvement of Teaching (NFIE), has developed a 16-page booklet for members that offers guidelines in designing effective new teacher mentoring programs. It suggests how to select and train mentors and how to measure the results. It also contains a list of resources and a pullout sheet of key questions to use in designing your mentoring program.
