Tell the Senate to Stop NSPS Funding

The House of Representatives recently passed its FY 08 Defense Appropriations Bill. Included in that bill was a bipartisan amendment offered by Representatives Inslee (D-WA), Van Hollen (D-MD), and Jones (R-NC) to deny funding for portions of the National Security Personnel System (NSPS) that would harm employees' rights and workplace protections from abuse.
The Senate version of the Defense Appropriations Bill did not include language to defund NSPS. But Appropriators have indicated they will consider including language similar to the Inslee/Van Hollen/Jones amendment in the legislation when it goes to Conference Committee, prior to final approval.

While FEA and the Coalition are continuing to seek relief in Federal Court, a Congressional solution would offer the quickest fix, and perhaps be the most effective.

I am a resident of [your city and state represented by the Senator]. As a taxpayer and a voter, I urge you and your fellow Senators to include language in the FY 08 Defense Appropriations bill to deny funding to the Department of Defense for the National Security Personnel System (NSPS).
NSPS is an unwarranted attack on federal workers. As designed by former Defense officials Donald Rumsfeld and Paul Wolfowitz, it ignores guidelines set forth by Congress to protect basic rights and protections for DoD civilian employees. Furthermore, as documented in a recent GAO report (GAO-07-851), the limited implementation of NSPS that has taken place so far has been plagued by mismanagement and an inability by DoD officials to adequately track program costs. Such a poorly designed, capricious, and badly-run program should be ended NOW, before more tax dollars are wasted.
The House of Representatives, in its version of the DoD Defense Appropriations bill, included a bipartisan amendment by Representatives Inslee (D-Wa), Van Hollen (D-Md), and Jones (R-NC), to deny DoD funding for NSPS. I call on you to support similar language in the Senate's version of the bill.
This ideological attack against workers has gone on long enough and wasted enough of my tax dollars -- tax dollars that could be much better spent helping our troops rather than destroying the morale of the men and women working to support their mission. Please, put an end to NSPS now!
